Martin Neil Labour Group Observer
Martin Neil is a member of the Vale of Leven Branch Labour Party and a Co-op Party delegate to the West Dunbartonshire Constituency Labour Party (CLP). He is a group observer and represents the CLP at Labour Group meetings. He ensures that Labour Group decisions reflect the West Dunbartonshire CLP policy and reports back to business meetings of the CLP. Martin is also a member of USDAW Trade Union.
Martin joined the Labour Party in 2004. He served as a member of the Scottish Young Labour Campaigns Committee in 2005. He held a number of positions within the local Labour Party. Between 2007 & 2008 he was the CLP Campaigns Officer and Chair of the Vale of Leven Branch Labour Party. In addition, Martin stood as a Labour candidate for the Leven Ward in 2007 and in 2008 he worked on Iain Gray’s Scottish Labour leadership campaign.
Martin works full time as a Parliamentary Aide to James Kelly MSP, in the Rutherglen Constituency. Building on his experience gained while working for Catherine Stihler MEP in 2005 as a Parliamentary Intern. He also worked for Jackie Baillie MSP as a Parliamentary Assistant in 2006 and again in 2007.
Martin was born and brought up in the Vale of Leven. Attending Levenvale Primary school and the Vale of Leven Academy. He also attended Clydebank College and graduated in 2004 with an HNC in Social Sciences before going on to University. In 2009 Martin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, from the University of the West of Scotland where he had studied Politics and Social Policy.
