David McBride: Housing, Environment & Economic Development Spokesperson
David McBride is an Executive Officer with the Department of Work & Pensions where he has worked for 25 years. He is an active union official of the Public & Commercial Services Union and its predecessor unions and has served in PCS Group DWP National Committee. He has been the Branch Secretary for this area and previously Renfrew Dunbarton & Argyll for 23 years. And is currently the Branch Secretary for Forth Valley & Dunbarton Branch.
David is married to Anne and has two children Patrick & Beth. He joined the Labour Party in 1986 and has been a very active member of the party since. He was the Chairperson of West Dunbartonshire Constituency Labour Party in 2007 until he was elected to represent the town of Dumbarton on West Dunbartonshire Council.
David was Labour Group Finance spokesman from 2007 until 2011. In this role he was responsible for leading the Labour Group budget process and presented alternative budgets to Council which could have better protected council jobs and services. David took on the role of spokesman for Housing, Environment & Economic Development in May 2011. He is also the Labour Group Secretary and acts as the point of contact between the Labour Group and all other bodies such as West Dunbartonshire Council, Trades Unions, the Constituency Labour Party. He has a key role in ensuring that political decisions are properly recorded and acted upon in order to ensure the political cohesion of the Labour Group.
David is Dumbarton born and bred, and has campaigned consistently for a new Dumbarton Academy. He was instrumental in getting cross party agreement that the new school must be our number one priority for a large scale capital project. He has given a public committment that he will continue to campagn for a new Dumbarton Academy until the final brick is laid. David also has a strong interest housing regeneration and is supportive of investment in the regeneration areas, particularly in Brucehill and Castlehill. He is also keen to tackle the dilapidation in Dumbarton Town Centre and supports measures to regenerate the Town Centre.
David represents the Labour Group on a number of Working Groups and Committees. He is a member of the following:
